Leg Deformity

Varus deformity means the knee is “outward,” which conditions an overload on the medial part of the knee, and tends to cause medial meniscus rupture and consequently damage to the cartilage surface. These patients generally present constant medial pain, which does not remit despite conservative medical management.

The diagnosis is made through simple X-rays and a mechanical axis. Usually, an MRI is necessary to assess the extent of the damage.

The surgical treatment of choice for this pathology is tibial opening osteotomy.

Another treatment option is medial unicondylar arthroplasty. This means placing a prosthesis only in the damaged medial compartment. Specific requirements must be met for this, which Dr. Mauricio González will identify during your consultation.
